Duke Holds Vigil for Virginia Tech Victims | Duke Today

- Members of the Duke community gathered in front of Duke Chapel Tuesday afternoon to remember the victims of Monday's shootings at Virginia Tech. The ceremony including the ringing of Duke Chapel's carillon bells 33 times -- one for each of the dead in the shootings -- and comments and prayers from members of the Duke community.

Rev. Sam Wells, dean of Duke Chapel, reflected on the shootings. The service was held simultaneously as a memorial service in Blacksburg, Va., home of Virginia Tech.

The Durham community is continuing with events remembering the Virginia Tech dead. Durham Congregations in Action will hold a vigil tonight (Wednesday) at 6 p.m. at First Chronicles Community Church, 1306 Lincoln St. in Durham. The service will be led by Rev. Gene Cobb, Epworth United Methodist Church and Rev. Pebbles Lucas, First Chronicles Community Church.
