Roadworks to cause disruption in Holme
ROADWORKS will take place in Holme-on-Spalding Moor this month which are expected to take two weeks to complete.
Patching and resurfacing will be carried out on Selby Road and High Street as part of East Riding Council’s programme of highway maintenance. In addition, manhole covers and road markings will be renewed.
Work is scheduled to commence on Monday, 13 June. The work will be carried out in two phases between the mini roundabout at the A614 junction and Major Bridge.
Weather permitting, the first phase between the mini roundabout at the A614 junction and Runner Lane is expected to be completed in seven days.
Due to the narrow width of sections of the carriageway and to undertake the work safely, the road will be closed to through traffic during working hours.
The road will be closed from 9.15am-5pm, Monday to Friday, and 8am-8pm, Saturday and Sunday. Temporary traffic lights may be in operation outside of these times with the road open to traffic.
When the surfacing is undertaken at Major Bridge, the road will be closed to all through traffic for one day due to the narrow section on a bend. This is programmed to take place on Sunday, 26 June.
Access for residents, shop deliveries, emergency services, refuse collection, mobile library, mobile optician and postal services will be allowed through the works and operate as normal.
Existing bus services, including school buses, will run as normal, although the 18A service will start and finish at Foggathorpe.
Heavy goods vehicles will be diverted at Bubwith via the B1228 and A614 via Howden. Light vehicles will be diverted via Runner End and Back Lane where a 7.5 tonne weight limit exists for the first seven days.
Galliford Try Highway Maintenance Ltd has been contracted to undertake the work on behalf of East Riding Council.
If you have any queries call the project manager, James Sissons, on (01482) 395644.

Holme-on-Spalding Moor farmer Ernest Smith said: "If they use a decent route, I don't see any problem with it. There have been plenty of pipelines across East Yorkshire and there seems to be no problem with them. They seem to landscape them pretty well

Bursea chapel and Holme on Spalding Moor church - Susan Butler ...
I had a very interesting time on Tuesday when a friend took me to visit the little chapel at Bursea near Holme on Spalding Moor. It stands on the site of an earlier chapel and was designed by well-known architect William Butterfield who designed, amongst other buildings, Keble College, Oxford. It was built by Goole stone mason Henry Kassell and paid for by the Sotheron-Estcourt family. We then looked at the remains of the nearby Sod House lock on the Market Weighton canal and then climbed (by car!) to the top of Holme Hill and visited the church. I think the view from outside the church across to York Minster must be unrivalled. Inside the church still has its old pews and pulpit with sounding board and all is beautifully clean and polished.
