Churches Cautioned Against Gullibility
THE CHRISTIAN Church in Ghana has been warned that it risks dying unless it avoids naiveté and the pitfalls associated with it.Churches across the nation have been asked to ensure they are well informed and equipped in all aspects of life in order to survive and gain the upper hand in the midst of a modern clash of civilizations.
Rev. Nana Anyani Boadum, Executive Member of the Ghana Pentecostal Council and General Overseer of Jesus Generation Evangelistic Ministry made this observation during the second graduation ceremony of Immanuel Bible Institute and Seminary Ghana Campus (IBIS) in Accra recently.
Rev. Anyani Boadum who graduated during the event with a Master's Degree in Theology said it was important for the church to avoid being naïve and ill-equipped in an era when its voice needs to be heard and its impact felt more than ever.
In an address, he noted this was because of an existing 'clash of civilizations' between the modern secular movement and Christianity.
'Secularism is gradually dominating society using the media and other influential groups and leaders such as politicians to propagate naturalism and other evils such as homosexuality and if the Church remains naïve and too ill-equipped to handle this issue, it will die!'
Rev. Anyani Boadum concluded by throwing a challenge to those saying it is impossible for the Church to die because Christianity is widespread in Ghana and Africa. 'Some people may say God forbid! But I say if you don't believe me, take a look at Europe. It was a Christian continent but the Church there is dead. Now all they have to show that it was once a Christian continent is their beautiful Christian monuments and architecture.'
Dr. Isaac Bentil-Bentum, Vice Chancellor of IBIS for his part, reminded the graduands and pastors that the work of ministry is above all, for the perfecting of the saints in the body of Christ.
He said the five-fold ministry gifts listed in Ephesians 4:11 namely apostles, prophets, teachers, pastors, evangelists as well as other spiritual gifts and callings have not been given by God to a select few but the entire church membership as well.
Pastors and church leaders are therefore to help their members discover their potential ministerial gifts so everyone can partake in the advancement of God's kingdom.
He tasked ministers of the gospel to prepare members of their congregations for the work of the ministry.
