North American Power launches wind energy offering
An electricity supplier of South Norwalk is betting that Americans are willing to spend a little more for the electricity they consume if it comes from a renewable source.
North American Wind Power has launched a Green-e Energy certified renewable energy option for residential and business customers across the country.
The program works through the purchase of electricity from wind energy suppliers, said Kerry Breitbart, co-founder and CEO of the company, which has 115,000 customers and annual revenue of 141 million dollars.
"We are the first company in our space aggressively market renewable energy to individuals," he said, adding that large corporations and the federal government are currently the main users of electricity from renewable sources. "In a state like Connecticut deregulated, we sell electricity. In regulated states, we can not sell electricity, but we can sell renewable energy credits."
