WYFF 4 Honored With 4 Southeast Regional Emmys

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- WYFF 4 was honored with four Emmys at the 2011 Southeast Regional Emmy Awards held in Atlanta on Saturday. This brings the station’s total to 83 Emmys over the past 18 years.

WYFF 4’s Carol Goldsmith, Michael Cogdill, Lee Brown and John Hendon received an Emmy for the station’s locally produced high definition news magazine special, Chronicle: An Appalachian Journey in the Documentary-Cultural category. “We are honored to receive this recognition for our prime special, Chronicle,” said News Director Justin Antoniotti. “To compete against the best stations in the Southeast and win speaks to the hard work and dedication of the WYFF News 4 staff.”

In addition to the Emmy, Chronicle programs have been honored with more national awards. 'Chronicle: Paul’s Gift' and 'Chronicle: An Appalachian Journey' received 2011 Bronze Telly Awards for excellence in television programming. Chronicle: Paul’s Gift was honored with a National Peabody award in 2010.

WYFF News 4 Sports Director Geoff Hart received an Emmy for Sports Anchor. This is Hart’s 12th career Emmy, including five Emmys for Best Sportscaster in the Southeast. Hart recently made the move from the sports desk to news anchor of WYFF News 4 Today in March.

WYFF News 4 continues a tradition of excellence in newscast production. Michael Cogdill, John Hendon, and Lee Brown received an Emmy for the Feature News Report, 'Driving the Blue Ridge.' Also, Eric Tapler was honored with an Emmy in the Director-Newscast category.

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Southeast Region include television stations in Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina, and western North Carolina.

ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. -- An upstate woman is facing charges up to attempted murder after deputies say she aimed her car at an EMS crew who had responded to a call for help at her home.

Someone from the home on Dursely Drive in the Kings Grant subdivision called 911 around 11 a.m. Tuesday. Deputies say a woman at the house was having chest pains.

When EMS arrived, deputies say the woman refused treatment, got into her SUV and aimed it at emergency medical technicians. The report says the woman missed the crew but hit the ambulance, causing damage to the vehicle’s wheel well and tie-rod.

From there, deputies say the woman drove off and refused to stop for blue lights.

In an attempt to elude deputies, officers say the woman put her car in reverse and hit a patrol car, causing damage to the brush guard.

At least one mailbox was also destroyed during the altercation.

The woman ended up back at the home, where she was arrested, according to deputies.

"Luckily, no one was injured, but (it was) extremely dangerous, not only for the officers who had to pursue her, but also for the EMT personnel that responded, apparently just to make sure (the woman) was OK," said Anderson County Detective Chad McBride. "We're still trying to figure out why exactly all that went down, but she's definitely facing pending charges at this point."

McBride says those charges could include failure to stop for blue lights, malicious damage to property and attempted murder.

The woman’s identity is not being released until she is formally charged.

The woman was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The report said the woman told EMS workers she “wanted to commit suicide by cop.”

News 4 tried to talk to the woman’s relatives, but no one answered the door.
