Solana Beach designers win top honors in ASID Design Excellence Awards
Local interior designers were celebrated for inventive, bold and eco-friendly designs for residences, commercial projects and custom products during the American Society of Interior Designers San Diego chapter’s 25th annual Design Excellence Awards at the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park recently.Winning projects in nine categories ranged from a beachfront estate on the Mexican Riviera to a residential development in Hollywood, confirming the increasing influence of local designers throughout the West.
Sandra Espinet, Allied Member ASID, Interiors by Sandra Espinet of San Diego, won first place in the Residential Space over 3,500 square feet category for her design of a palatial 8,000-square-foot Spanish Mediterranean beachfront villa in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico. She also won second place in Product Design.
Kristianne Watts, Allied Member ASID, KW Designs of Solana Beach, won in the Residential Space under 3,500 square feet category for a sleek, modern house in La Jolla’s Bird Rock neighborhood.
Past ASID San Diego Chapter President Tina Marie Koch, ASID, Design Perspectives of San Diego, won in the Commercial Space over 3,500 square foot category for her design of the Corvette Dinner, located in the historic Admiral’s Club at the former San Diego Naval Training Station.
Kristin Kostamo-McNeil, Allied Member ASID, of Pacific Beach won first place in the Commercial Space under 3,500 square feet category for the design of the lobby of the El Mirador Tower at the Coronado Shores Properties and second place for Bathroom design.
John Mills Davies, ASID, Marrokal Design and Remodeling, San Diego, walked away with four awards. He won first place honors in the Specialty Design category for a sustainable, energy-efficient home in Del Mar and in the Singular Space category for the outdoor living area adjacent to a North Park bungalow. He also won second place in the Residential Space over 3,500 square feet category and third in the Residential Space under 3,500 square feet category.
Lena Brion, ASID, Brion Design, Inc. of Solana Beach, won first place in the Product Design category for a sculptural concrete outdoor table highlighted by a dramatic fireplace feature that extends the length of the table. She also won third place in the Commercial Space over 3,500 square feet category.
Tatiana Machados-Rosas, Allied Member ASID, Jackson Design and Remodeling, won first place in the Bathroom category for master bath remodel in a historic Spanish Revival home in San Diego’s Marston Hills and second place in the Residential Space under 3,500 square feet category.
