Chevrolet Camaro Teases the Premier of Transformers 3

(06/22/2011)(readMedia)-- Available at Massachusetts Chevrolet dealership Quirk Chevy, the Chevrolet Camaro has always played a major part in the Transformers movie series, and the latest film "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," due to debut June 29, 2011, is no different. A new Chevy commercial makes use of the Camaro tie-in, offering a sneak peak at the third Transformers film while promoting a special version of the 2012 Chevy Camaro.

Since the first Transformers movie debuted in 2007, a late model yellow Chevrolet Camaro has become synonymous with the film. Playing a major role as Bumblebee, a protagonist and personal bodyguard for the film's star Shia LaBeouf, the concept car for a new, fifth-generation Camaro was teased to Chevy fans in the first film of the series before arriving in dealership showrooms as a production car in 2009. Now, the redesigned Chevy Camaro is returning the favor by teasing the film in Chevy's ad.

"Anytime you talk about the Transformers series or the character Bumblebee, the Chevy Camaro comes to mind," said Haykel Ammari, general manager of Greater Boston Chevy dealer Quirk Chevy. "It's great marketing for both Chevrolet and the film. I don't think they could have chosen a better hero than a Camaro – it's an American icon."

The 30-second ad opens with 2012 Chevy Camaro racing through the wreckage of a city under siege before cutting to several shots of the car performing power slides, a teaser of the Chevrolet 50th Anniversary Corvette Stingray concept car and a multitude of explosions. The 2012 Chevy Camaro is expected to launch early next year.

Chevrolet's recent redesign of the 2011 Camaro has proven to be a hit on the silver screen and at Chevy dealerships, where it has been outselling its biggest rival, the Ford Mustang, by a comfortable margin in 2011. Through May of this year, Chevy has already seen 40,275 Camaros fly off lots and into new owners' garages, while Ford has only sold 30,206 units of the Mustang.

Beyond its retro sporty looks that pay homage to Camaros of yesteryear, the current 2011 Chevy Camaro ponies up some serious power. The base Camaro comes with a 3.6-liter V6 that pumps out 312 horsepower but can still net 29 mpg on the highway with the automatic transmission. Of course, a muscle car needs a V8 option as well, and Chevy doesn't shy away from power with the 6.2-liter, 426 horsepower Camaro SS. Even with all that power on tap, the Camaro SS can return 24 mpg on the highway with its standard manual transmission, which means a cruising range of 456 miles on the 19-gallon fuel tank.
