In Bloom preparations under way
FINISHING touches are being made to floral decorations in preparation for the arrival of judges from Heart of England in Bloom.
Planting has been completed in Ledbury with about 80 tubs and troughs situated around the town, as well as hanging baskets supplied by the town council, all of which are centred on the theme of HMS Ledbury. The displays pick out the deep red, orange and white of the ship’s flag along with blue to represent the sea.
Judges will inspect the displays on Tuesday, July 5 and the hard work will continue throughout the summer to keep the containers watered for all to enjoy.
Ledbury in Bloom volunteer co-ordinator, Claire Moore, said: “We have done our very best bearing in mind we don’t have a huge number of volunteers. Everybody helps out when they can. Fingers crossed it will be a good result and we are praying for sunshine on the day.”
The judging coincides with the town’s poetry festival, ensuring the town’s streets will be bustling with activity.
“Ledbury is at its best when it has lots of people around. It’s really about making the town look nice and if we get a good result then that would be even better,” said Claire.
A vintage Alvis car will be on hand once again to drive the judges to various locations, including Queen’s Walk, Ledbury Primary School and the railway station.
Colourful creations can also be found in shop windows as the town traders enter into competition for the most attractive display.
Last year Ledbury won a fourth successive gold in the large town category and received a special Royal Horticultural Society ‘Local Roots’ award.
