Two on motorcycle killed in Hamilton County intersection

Two people died when the motorcycle on which they were riding collided with a truck at the intersection of 146th Street and Gray Road in Hamilton County.

Before the 12:08 p.m. accident, the motorcycle was traveling west in the left lane of 146th Street behind a sports-utility vehicle, said Vicky Dunbar, spokeswoman for the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department. A box truck, headed east, was waiting to make a left turn onto northbound Gray Road.

When the traffic light turned yellow, Dunbar said, the SUV began to stop but the motorcyclist steered into the right lane to pass the SUV and continue through the light. The driver of the box truck, she said, meanwhile had begun turning north onto Gray Road after seeing the SUV begin stopping for the light.

The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the box truck's cab, Dunbar said.

Both occupants of the motorcycle died at the scene, Dunbar said. Names were not being released as of 3 p.m. pending notification of victims' relatives.

Neither of the victims was wearing a helmet, she said.

The driver of the truck was not hurt.
