Kaukauna Girl Leaves for Dream Vacation
By Brian McBride
A Kaukauna girl who is losing her eyesight due to congenital glaucoma finally fulfills a wish to go to Sea World and Disney World.
Kearstin Cornelissen and her family flew to Florida on Wednesday thanks to the efforts of her classmates at Electa Elementary School. They helped raise $10,000 to send Kearstin on her dream trip and send her off in style.
An entire school yard quickly turned into a celebration Wednesday morning.
"To them she's just another student in the classroom and they involve her in everything," says Sarah Nelson, Kearstin's teacher. "It's Kearstin, everybody does it for Kearstin."
And that's what the school's 600 students did by forming a line as far as the eye could see to Kearstin's surprise limo. A parting farewell fit for only a fairy tale.
"To make her dreams come true, is just completely amazing," says Michelle Haase, Kearstin's mother. "It's very amazing. A thank you doesn't even say how grateful we are."
"Unbelievable that all these do this for her," says Joleen Gosha, Kearstin's aunt. "She has struggled all her life with this and she's just a little trooper."
Despite being covered in a hat and sunglasses, Kearstin's smile says it all.
"Thank you for everything," says Kearstin Cornelissen.

A Potential Breakthrough in the Treatment of Glaucoma - Eye Doc News
In a news release on June 14th, pSivida announced the commencement of a Phase I/II clinical trial to study a new bioerodible drug delivery implant for the treatment of glaucoma and hypertension. The implant is designed to provide long-term sustained release of latanoprost, one of the new class of prostaglandin analogs. The drug delivery implant, based on the company’s Durasert technology system, will be injected into the subconjunctival space in the eye (between the sclera and the lower lid), be bioerodible and is expected to deliver its drug for a period of months.
If successful, this implant would solve the problems of non-compliance, the inability by some to administer the drops and, depending on its price, perhaps address the increasing glaucoma medication cost issues.
